We know Poliform, Varenna kitchens included, and Effeti up close: we have designed, sold and fitted both. This is not a comparison written to prove a point: it is our opinion. We will give you the conclusion straight away: two kitchens of the same level, two different ways of getting there. And where they are equal, we say so.
We say it from experience. We have brought Varenna and Effeti kitchens into our clients' homes, with our own team from survey to final testing. Anyone who asks us "which of the two?" deserves an answer from people in the trade, not a slogan. Below you will find the verifiable facts first, then our point of view.
| Aspect | Poliform / Varenna | Effeti | In short |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carcass | 18 mm wood fibreboard, 20 mm doors, ABS edging (from the published technical sheets) | 18 mm side panels, shelves of at least 22 mm, double-faced interiors, E1-class panels | Same level |
| Hardware | Top-tier | Top-tier: Blum Legrabox and Tandembox | Same level |
| Made to measure | Very wide modular system, customisation within the programme | Goes outside the module: in 2026, 120×64×207 cm tall units, 3 cm stainless-steel strips, 57 cm deep side panels | Different roads |
| Own mechanisms | Opening systems provided by the Varenna programme | Pocket doors since 1985, patented E0 groove (2005) | Different roads |
| History | Large group from Brianza, a brand very well known internationally | Tuscan joinery since 1963, Compasso d'Oro 1991 for the Misura programme | Two stories |

Poliform/Varenna data comes from the technical sheets published on arredamento.it; Effeti data from the manufacturer's specifications and from our own 2026 projects.
Where they are equal
On the carcass there is no winner. The Varenna/Poliform technical sheets list 18 mm wood fibreboard, 20 mm doors and ABS edging: a high standard, built to take decades of daily use. Effeti answers with 18 mm side panels, shelves of at least 22 mm, double-faced interiors and E1-class panels. Different numbers, equivalent level: in both cases the box is made to last.
The same goes for the hardware. Drawers, runners and hinges are top-tier in both kitchens; on Effeti we find Blum Legrabox and Tandembox, which our team knows screw by screw.
Where Effeti takes a different road
The first difference is made-to-measure. Poliform offers a very wide modular system and allows customisation within the programme; Effeti was born as a joinery and, when needed, goes outside the module. This is not a catalogue line: in our 2026 projects we built 120×64×207 cm tall units, 3 cm stainless-steel strips and 57 cm deep side panels, to make the numbers work with walls, recesses and appliances that were not catalogue-sized.
The second difference is the in-house mechanisms. Effeti has offered pocket doors since 1985 and in 2005 patented the E0 groove, the handleless opening system that is now one of its signatures. Poliform offers the opening systems provided by the Varenna programme, with the consistency of a very broad industrial range.
The third difference concerns us. With Effeti the chain is short: design, order, delivery, assembly and spare parts go through our team and a direct relationship with the company. When a door needs adjusting or a drawer needs replacing a few years on, the path is short and whoever comes to your home already knows the kitchen, because it is the same team that installed it.
Where Poliform is strong
This must be said with the same honesty. Poliform is a large group from Brianza, with a brand recognised internationally: whoever walks into a showroom already knows the name, and that counts. The range is very wide and, above all, the home system is complete: kitchen, wardrobes, bookcases, beds and upholstery come from the same language and coordinate effortlessly. For anyone who wants a single hand across the whole home that is a real argument, and we are glad to say so. You can see it in person in the Poliform showrooms in Milan, and it is worth the visit.
How to choose
Our advice is not to choose on paper. The two kitchens resemble each other in the numbers and differ in the way they work: the only serious test is to ask both the same questions, in person. That is why we wrote the six-test checklist in Where kitchen quality shows: take it to the showroom, open it on every kitchen you are considering and note the answers. Then remember that the product is half the job: the other half is the assembly, and that holds for any brand.
The questions to ask, of both
· What are the declared thicknesses of side panels, shelves and doors?
· Which hardware is fitted, and from which manufacturer?
· How far does made-to-measure go, inside or outside the module?
· Who fits the kitchen, and who do they answer to?
· How do you get a spare part or an adjustment five years on?
· Where can I see it in person, in the finishes I have chosen?
Come and see them, and run the checklist tests. Effeti awaits you in our Milan showroom, at Via Uberto Visconti di Modrone 8/a, and in our Arluno store; Poliform in its Milan showrooms. If after the tests you would like to talk it over with people who have fitted both, we are here.
