Arflex describes the Cousy as a sofa with a minimalist and rigorous structure, for an effect that is comfortable and decorative at the same time. It is the language of Vincent Van Duysen: clean lines, measured proportions, materials you want to touch.
In Arflex's photos you find it in a historic salon with a fireplace as well as in front of a wall of French windows: a form that ignores fashion, and lasts because of it.
Vincent Van Duysen was born in Lokeren, Belgium, in 1962 and studied architecture at Sint Lucas in Ghent. Between 1986 and 1987 he worked in Milan with Aldo Cibic at Sottsass Associati; in 1990 he opened his studio in Antwerp, specialising in architecture and interiors.
He designs furniture from an architect's perspective: spatial relations rather than shapes. The result is pieces that are essential yet tactile, attentive to proportion, durability, function and comfort, and resistant to fashion. The Cousy, from 2006, is one of them.
The Cousy is more than a sofa: with the armchair, the chaise longue and the pouf you can furnish a whole living room in a single language. The cover falls softly to the floor, the cushions are generous and the lines stay square.
