Arflex calls it "the armchair you can't do without". The Arflex Elettra armchair,
designed by the BBPR studio in 1954, has clean lines and elegant proportions that make it at home
almost anywhere. Here at Mariani, official Arflex retailers in Milan and Arluno, we tell you its story
and let you try it in our showroom.

The story: from the office to the living room
The Elettra was born in 1954 from the Milan studio BBPR, one of the
leading names in 20th-century Italian architecture. Arflex describes it as a classic of the
1950s office: a seat designed for workspaces which, thanks to its timeless style, adapts
perfectly to any setting.
Today it looks just as good in a living room as in a study, alone or in pairs: a piece that brings
order to a room without weighing it down.

The designers
Four architects, one name that made history.
BBPR is the studio of architects, urban planners and designers founded in Milan in 1932 by Gian Luigi Banfi, Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso, Enrico Peressutti and Ernesto Nathan Rogers. A leading voice in the debate on the modern movement, after the war it worked on the A.R. plan for the reconstruction of Milan, and in 1951 it curated the exhibition La forma dell'utile (The shape of usefulness) at the IX Triennale.
For Arflex it designed seating that is still in production: besides the Elettra armchair, the Elettra chair, Giulietta and Neptunia.
