The story: Mario Marenco's essential design

The Marechiaro was born in 1976 from a design by the architect Mario Marenco. In Arflex's words, it is the extreme formal essentiality of these upholstered elements that still makes them a very current model.

The result is a system that suits different styles: in a light fabric it fits a loft, in leather or a warm colour it gives character to a classic living room.

The designer

An architect who took away rather than added.

Mario Marenco graduated in Naples in 1957 and in 1960 opened the DEWG studio in Rome, focused on community buildings. From 1970 he worked as a designer for companies such as Arflex, Artemide, Bernini and B&B; in 1990 he founded Studio Purificazione 35 in Rome.

For Arflex he designed two seating systems that are still in the catalogue: the Marenco and the Marechiaro. Of the Marechiaro, designed in 1976, Arflex highlights its extreme formal essentiality, which still makes it a very current model.
