The Faubourg was born in 2008 from a design by Carlo Colombo for Arflex. Arflex describes it as an easy & chic piece, deep and with soft cushions, one you can almost plunge into, suitable for any type of living room.
It is a straight sofa rather than a modular system: you choose the width, the upholstery and the cushions, and its character stays the same. The metal feet lighten it and leave the floor visible.
Carlo Colombo graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1993, but in 1992 he had already designed his first piece, the Kyoto bed for Cappellini. Since then he has worked across product design, graphics, exhibitions and consultancy for companies such as Poliform, Cappellini, Moroso, Poltrona Frau and Zanotta.
He has been art director of Arflex since 2006, so the 2008 Faubourg was born inside the company. His career includes Designer of the Year in Tokyo in 2004 and a Good Design Award in 2009.
