The Marius & Marius was born in 1970 from a design by Mario Marenco. Arflex has brought it back, presenting it as an iconic sofa, the symbol of an era when Italian design knew how to combine comfort, irony and originality.
It is a design you recognise at once: rounded volumes, seats and backs that seem to swell, a relaxed feel that suits a period interior as well as a contemporary home.
Mario Marenco graduated in Naples in 1957 and in 1960 opened the DEWG studio in Rome, focused on community buildings. From 1970 he worked as a designer for companies such as Arflex, Artemide, Bernini and B&B; in 1990 he founded Studio Purificazione 35 in Rome.
The Marius & Marius belongs to the very start of that period: a 1970 sofa that Arflex chose to bring back to its catalogue as the symbol of an era when Italian design knew how to combine comfort, irony and originality.
