The Arflex 9000 is a 1969 seating system you recognise at once: compact, rounded
modules with ribbed stitching. It was designed by Tito Agnoli. Here at Mariani,
official Arflex retailers in Milan and Arluno, we tell you what it costs, how it is put together,
and we let you try it in our showroom.

The story: a system born at the end of the Sixties
The 9000 dates from 1969. Arflex describes it as a compact seating system
with rounded shapes that lets you create many different configurations: this modularity is
what makes it work in very different spaces.
The same design, Arflex says, adapts to both homes and hospitality spaces: a living
room, a hotel lobby, a waiting area. The company's own photographs show it well, from corner
compositions to round islands with a central backrest.

The designer
An architect trained alongside Gio Ponti.
Tito Agnoli was born in Lima, Peru, in 1931 into an Italian family and moved to Italy after the war. He studied painting with Sironi, then architecture: he graduated in 1959 and worked as an assistant to Gio Ponti and Carlo De Carli.
By the early Fifties he was already working intensively in design with major Italian companies. He received several Compasso d'Oro nominations and a gold medal at Neocon in Chicago in 1986; his work is in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York. For Arflex he designed the 9000 system, the 9000 armchair and pouf.

Features: rounded modules to compose
Every 9000 element shares the same soft, rounded language, with vertical stitching drawing the
surface. That is why the modules join seamlessly, in a line, at a corner or in a curve.
Compact and modular — sofas and single units to build the right shape.
Curved units — for flowing compositions and round islands.
Home and hospitality — the same system for the living room and for public spaces.
A complete family — with the 9000 armchair and pouf.
