The story: from Bobo to Boborelax

In 1967 Cini Boeri designed the Bobo for Arflex, which Arflex remembers as one of the first single-block seats made only of polyurethane foam, with no internal frame. The Boborelax was created from the Bobo.

Arflex describes the pair as a curious and unusual family of essential furnishings, "an example of pure design, without labels and adjectives". The definition makes sense at first sight: no superfluous detail, just the shape of the seat.

The designer

An architect who designed for everyday life.

Cini Boeri was born in Milan in 1924 and graduated in architecture from the Politecnico in 1951. After years of collaboration with Marco Zanuso, she opened her own studio in 1963, working across architecture and design.

In 1967 she designed the Bobo for Arflex, one of the first single-block seats made entirely of polyurethane foam, with no internal frame. The Boborelax was created from the Bobo: together, in Arflex's words, they make up a curious and unusual family of essential furnishings.
