Arflex describes it as a sofa that sums up the perfect fusion of comfort, welcome and softness while keeping a linear and elegant design. Its dimensions invite you to rest, and the big soft cushions seem to embrace you as soon as you sit down.
There is no designer's name on the cover: the Casablanca is signed by the company itself, which has been working on upholstered comfort since 1947.
The Casablanca does not carry the name of a single designer: it is an Arflex project, presented in 2024. Arflex was born in 1947, when Pirelli engineer Carlo Barassi, with Renato Teani, Pio Reggiani, Aldo Bai and the architect Marco Zanuso, began experimenting with foam rubber and elastic straps for furniture; its public debut came at the IX Triennale in Milan, in 1951.
Since 1995 the brand has belonged to Seven Salotti S.p.A., which brought the historic archive pieces back into production alongside collaborations with contemporary architects. In 2007 the historic archive was shown to the public for the first time. The Casablanca belongs to this story.
Arflex's photos show the Casablanca's character clearly: the cushions fold softly over the frame, the armrests are shaped and the sofa rests on slim legs that lift it off the floor. It looks just as good in a historic room as in a contemporary living room.
