The Arflex Deep Cradle is a sofa you recognise by its structure: a metal frame with a triangular design that wraps the seat like a cradle. Neri&Hu designed it in 2020. Here at Mariani, official Arflex retailers in Milan and Arluno, we let you try it for yourself.

Cradle is a family designed by Neri&Hu for Arflex: the 2018 armchair, the sofa and the small table. The Deep Cradle, from 2020, shares the same underlying idea. According to Arflex, the system's defining feature is its structure: a classical triangular construction, repeated several times around the pieces.

Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu are the founding partners of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office. Their approach draws on multiple disciplines to create experiences that enrich contemporary life while keeping a critical link to collective history.
Both trained in architecture across UC Berkeley, Harvard and Princeton and teach at major universities; in 2004 they founded Design Republic in Shanghai, a platform combining retail, exhibitions and education. For Arflex they designed the Cradle family, which the Deep Cradle joined in 2020.
The black metal frame runs around the backrest and armrests and comes down to form the legs. You can see it clearly from behind, which is why the Deep Cradle also works in the middle of a room, where you walk around the sofa. The soft, roomy seat is completed by loose cushions.
