Few armchairs are as recognisable at first glance as the Arflex Katrin: a soft shell
dressed entirely in fur, resting on a slender iron structure. Here at Mariani, official Arflex
retailers in Milan and Arluno, we tell you how it is made and prepare your quote.

The design: a body to be dressed
The Katrin was designed in 2010 by Carlo Colombo. Arflex describes it
as the result of a continuous search for elegance and simplicity, a seat
conceived as a body to be dressed with an elegant and luxurious dress.
That is the whole idea: a clean, almost shell-like form and a cover that transforms it. The structure
stays light and graphic, so the fur becomes the real star of the room.

The designer
An architect in search of elegance and simplicity.
Carlo Colombo graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1993, but he had been working with Giulio Cappellini since 1991: his first major design, the Kyoto bed, dates from 1992. Since then he has designed for many of Italy's best-known companies and also works in architecture, graphics and exhibitions.
His bond with Arflex runs deep: he has been its art director since 2006. In 2004 he was named Designer of the Year in Tokyo, and in 2009 he received the Good Design Award. The Katrin sums up his approach: an essential shape made luxurious by the material that dresses it.

Features
Tibet lamb fur cover — in black, blue, natural and pink.
Iron structure — black or white, for a bolder or a more discreet base.
Fire-resistant cover — as stated in the Arflex technical sheet.
Indoor only — it is not an outdoor armchair.
Combining fur and structure gives very different characters: all white it is bright and soft, with
dark fur and a black base it becomes more graphic.
