Arflex describes the Naviglio as a seating system with a rigorous shape, yet pleasantly softened in its lines thanks to a skilful use of materials. The result is a clean, orderly sofa that sits just as well in a contemporary living room as in a historic interior, as the Arflex photos show.
Umberto Asnago trained at the Istituto d'Arte in Cantù. In 1968 he began working as a designer for a furniture company, where he went on to direct the research centre; in 2006 he opened his own independent practice.
Since then he has designed for several furniture companies, Arflex among them, created displays and showrooms for furniture and fashion brands, and served as art director of a lighting company. For Arflex he designed the Naviglio in 2007.
In the Arflex catalogue the Naviglio comes as a sofa in five widths, from 216 to 346 cm, alongside a square pouf. Once you have the right size for your wall, you choose the materials.
