Arflex Pecorelle Sofa in Milan — Official Retailer

A sofa of soft rolls, born from the idea that nature can inspire a piece of design.

Cini Boeri for Arflex, 1972 · By Mariani Design

The Arflex Pecorelle are recognisable at first glance: soft rolls wrapping the back and armrests, resting on slender metal legs. Cini Boeri designed them in 1972, as a sofa and an armchair. Here at Mariani, official Arflex retailers in Milan and Arluno, we tell you their story and let you try them in our showroom.

The story: nature as a muse

Arflex reports Cini Boeri's own account: for the Pecorelle she was inspired by the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the artists who made landscape their material. And so nature takes over and becomes the muse of a new piece of design.

That was in 1972. Today the Pecorelle are among Cini Boeri's icons still in the Arflex catalogue, alongside the Strips and the Bobo.

The designer

An architect who designed for everyday life.

Cini Boeri was born in Milan in 1924 and graduated in architecture from the Politecnico in 1951. After years of collaboration with Marco Zanuso, she opened her own studio in 1963, working across architecture and design with a particular focus on how space works in smaller homes.

For Arflex she designed pieces still in the catalogue today, from the Strips (Compasso d'Oro 1979) to the Bobo. The Pecorelle, from 1972, bring a different inspiration to her work: nature and the art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
