The story: from Strips to Strips 77

At the end of the 1960s Cini Boeri's Strips revolutionised the furniture market, becoming, in Arflex's words, an evergreen all over the world. In 1977 the designer added new elements to the family, with a softer and more comfortable look.

That is how the Strips 77 was born: the same language of padded squares, with fuller, rounder volumes. Two years later, in 1979, the Strips family received the Compasso d'Oro ADI.

The designer

Cini Boeri returns to the Strips, ten years on.

Cini Boeri was born in Milan in 1924 and graduated in architecture from the Politecnico in 1951. After years of collaboration with Marco Zanuso, she opened her own studio in 1963, working across architecture and design with a particular focus on how domestic space works.

In 1968 she designed the Strips for Arflex, which became an evergreen all over the world. In 1977 she added new elements to the family, softer and more comfortable in appearance: the Strips 77. In 1979 the Strips family, signed with Laura Griziotti, won the Compasso d'Oro.

Features: softer and more welcoming

The Arflex photos show the difference clearly: rounded arms and back, and padding stitched into squares that gives the sofa a soft, enveloping look. It speaks of comfort before you even sit down.
