The story: from the tripolina to the Taboga

The starting point is the classic tripolina. As Arflex puts it, the Taboga naturally takes on its use and advantages. Today's re-edition, however, is less spartan: comfortable upholstery is tucked into the metal frame, so the seat stays visually light but becomes a real lounge chair.

The result is a seat with a continuous, reclined line, its back and seat padded in generous cushions held by the black frame. It works in a living room next to a sofa, or in a pair in front of a statement wall, as in the opening photo.

"The tripolina, made comfortable: the frame stays essential, the comfort does not."

The designer

Cini Boeri, taking comfort seriously.

Born in Milan in 1924, Cini Boeri graduated from the Politecnico in 1951, worked with Marco Zanuso and opened her own studio in 1963. She designed houses, apartments and shops in Italy and abroad, and in design she focused on furnishing elements.

At the heart of her research, Arflex notes, were the functionality of space in smaller homes and the psychological relationship between people and their surroundings. The 1976 Taboga is a good example: a simple seat, designed for use. To find out more, see our page on Cini Boeri and Arflex.
